Turtle Tagging Takeover: Race Day Prep
Sep. 10, 2026 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Join us in the lobby of the Boardwalk Theater as we get our hard-shelled athletes ready for Sunday’s big race down the Pine River. Each turtle will receive a quick pre-race checkup to make sure it is ready for action, adventure, and the possibility of aquatic glory.

If a turtle arrives with a tag from a previous race, that old tag will be removed before the turtle receives a brand-new tag matched to a raffle ticket. Once properly identified and officially race-ready, the turtles will settle into their travel boxes until they are transported to the Pine River on Race Day.

Turtle Race Day: Fast Fun at a Slow Pace
Sep. 13, 2026 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

The St. Clair Rotary’s Turtle Race is crawling closer—and after months of spreading the word, it’s almost time for our shelled athletes to take the spotlight! To help Race Day run smoothly, we’re looking for volunteers to jump in with the following roles:

  • Course Monitors: Help set up the racecourse on Race Day. Pat Coughlin is leading this crew, so just follow Pat’s plan and you’ll stay on track—unlike a few of our contestants.
  • Ticket Booth Adoption Administrators: Sell adoption tickets to race-day arrivals at the booth in Rotary Park. It’s your chance to help folks find the perfect turtle to cheer for—no compatibility questionnaire required.
  • Turtle Chauffeurs: Volunteers with pick-up trucks will shuttle the tagged turtles from the Boardwalk Theater to Rotary Park. Think luxury transport, minus the tiny sunglasses and red carpet.
  • Turtle Wranglers: Help load turtles into the starting bin and keep them inside the racetrack. No lasso required, but a calm hand and a good sense of humor will help.
  • Water Wranglers: Volunteers with their own watercraft—personal watercraft or kayaks—will patrol alongside the racetrack and return any would-be escape artists to the course. Basically, you’ll be turtle traffic control on the water.

Most of all, bring a positive attitude, a willingness to help, and your best race-day cheer. The turtles may be slow, but the fun should move fast!
